SCCM’s research grants offer opportunities for established and early-stage researchers to receive funding for their projects. Three grants are awarded each year to critical care professionals seeking funding to advance critical care.

Abstract and Case Report Submissions
Deadline: August 1, 2025
Submit your original investigative research abstracts and case reports for the 2026 Critical Care Congress and contribute to the advancement of critical care. Accepted abstracts and case reports will be published in Critical Care Medicine.

Benzos or Barbs? Controversies in Management of Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome

Alcohol withdrawal syndrome (AWS) can require a coordinated, multiprofessional approach. Explore best practices in the management of severe AWS, including the role of benzodiazepines versus barbiturates, adjunctive therapies, and predictive scoring systems for managing high-risk patients outside the ICU. New Resources from AHRQ

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has two new resources to help clinicians.
  • Toolkit for MRSA Prevention
    AHRQ developed the Toolkit for MRSA Prevention: Targeting SSI, which adapts AHRQ’s Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP) framework to implement four evidence-based strategies to prevent methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in settings where surgical site infections (SSIs) are most common.

  • Report on Emergency Department Boarding
    AHRQ released a Technical Report on the AHRQ Summit to Address Emergency Department Boarding addressing the need to physically keep patients in the emergency department (ED) when no inpatient bed is available, known as ED boarding. The report includes real-world strategies hospitals are already using.
