‌Exploring SCCM: Breathing Life Into West Africa
SCCM President Jose L. Pascual, MD, PhD, FRCS(C), FACS, FCCM, provides updates about the Africa Infrastructure Relief and Support (AIRS) project in his President’s Message. Dr. Pascual, SCCM staff, and project partners traveled to The Gambia and Liberia in October to attend dedication ceremonies to mark the project’s completion and sign the handover agreements. They also celebrated the hard work and dedication of the many government officials, partners, contractors, and other experts who successfully completed the project.

SCCM Delegates Advocate for Critical Care

Society delegates recently attended the American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates Interim Meeting in November, advocating for policies benefiting critically ill patients. During the meeting, they:
  • Successfully intervened on a brain death determination resolution to protect clinician autonomy while advancing quality care
  • Cosponsored a resolution (that subsequently passed) affirming the AMA’s position on protecting science, clinical integrity, and the patient-physician relationship
  • Strengthened coalitions with a number of other associations and societies through the newly formed Chest and Allergy Caucus.
