Advocacy alert: SCCM Urges OMB to protect critical care research and patients.

The Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) has submitted formal comments opposing proposed federal funding changes that could weaken scientific peer review, disrupt active clinical trials, and delay time-sensitive critical care research.

As SCCM stated in its letter to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), “Sepsis and ARDS kill within hours to days, and the entire premise of pragmatic emergency-care trial networks is speed to evidence.” Changes such as adding discretionary political review could introduce delay and unpredictability into research that saves lives.

SCCM urged the OMB to preserve expert peer review, protect patients enrolled in active studies, allow federally funded research findings to be published and presented, and maintain access to essential scientific and professional resources.
