‌Voting Representatives: Information about May 13th Amigos Annual Member Business Meeting

Earlier this month, Voting Representatives received an email with information from Board of Directors Chair Ms. Paula Settoon. This message contained links to documents about the FY2026-27 budget, the Call to Meeting with candidate information, election information, and an agenda for the Member Business Meeting to be held online, May 13, 2026. An email from our election service containing ballot information will be sent in mid-April.

‌Plan Ahead for Membership Renewal—Invoices and Quotes Available Early

To help members plan ahead and streamline internal purchasing processes, Amigos is offering an option to send annual membership invoices early, rather than waiting for our usual early-July schedule. If an early invoice will help with budgeting or procurement timelines, just let us know by sending a message to membership@amigos.org.

‌Last Chance to Register for Book Repair Basics

Registration closes April 21 for Book Repair Basics, an in-person workshop for Amigos members taking place on Wednesday, April 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Austin Public Library.


Preservation expert Rebecca Elder will guide participants through foundational repair techniques for paper and books, including surface cleaning, mending, tipping in pages, hinge tightening, and corner repair. The session will also cover how to set up a repair workspace, introduce common book repair terminology, and discuss when it is appropriate to engage a conservator.

‌Backstage Library Works Explains Digital Metadata

In its blog post, "A Simple Guide to Digital Metadata," Amigos vendor partner Backstage Library Works outlines high-level aspects of digital metadata. It can be stored inside or outside of an image and consists of several different attributes; you’ve probably heard of administrative, descriptive, structural, and technical metadata, for example. We use it in file names and use it to enrich Digital Asset Managers (DAMs). What you collect will depend on your project's end goal.
