A Message from Amigos President & CEO Miguel Figueroa
Amigos is excited to announce a new chapter in our programs and services for libraries – our Hyku digital repository service is now production ready! Hyku provides a robust and flexible platform for institutions to manage and provide access to digital content. Our journey with Hyku began with the academic library representatives from our Board of Directors, who encouraged us to explore institutional repository solutions that could be sustainable and affordable for members and libraries across our region. Our Technology Solutions team spent time over the past year working with an active community of libraries supporting the open-source Hyku and Samvera projects. And we have hosted several informational sessions with member libraries to better understand library needs and the ways that Hyku can provide a viable solution. I’m happy to report that we are already welcoming libraries onto Hyku and we hope that more libraries will explore and help support this collaborative technology solution.
Under the leadership of our Board of Directors, Amigos is preparing for a new strategic plan. Over the next several months, we will introduce a series of short, one-question surveys to better understand the interests of members and libraries across our region. October’s one-question survey focuses on library technology needs and asks, “What is a shared and pressing technology need across libraries? How can Amigos libraries help address that need by working together?” We would love to hear from you and appreciate your engagement with our future work.
Amigos promotes both organizational development and individual growth by offering learning opportunities and sharing key developments in the library profession. Three awards will be granted, and only one staff member per library will be selected. This opportunity is for a librarian working in an Amigos member library that has not attended the conference in the past and who is relatively new (less than 3 years) to working in the area of electronic resource management
