The TXST Update

‌

Dear Friends,

Spring is here, bringing fresh energy, longer days, and plenty to celebrate at TXST. This is a season of growth, action, and community—perfect timing for our first-ever Philanthropy Week (March 24-27).

This week is all about coming together to support the causes Bobcats care about most, such as scholarship funding, food security for our students, protecting the San Marcos River, athletics, and more. It all leads up to Step Up for State (March 26-27)—the 1,899-minute campaign to create lasting impact. Every gift, big or small, fuels the future of TXST. Thank you for being part of this enduring tradition.

Bobcats in Action

Spring also means stepping up in other ways—like the Great Texas River Cleanup held March 1. Our students, staff, and San Marcos neighbors once again showed their dedication by removing thousands of pounds of debris to keep our watersheds clean.

Meanwhile, Bobcat sports are on fire!

  • Women’s track and field are Sun Belt Conference Indoor Champions.
  • Women’s tennis is dominating the courts with a 12-3 record this spring and are tied for 2nd in conference.
  • Women’s golf won the Texas State Invitational to open the season.
  • Two men’s golfers, Sakke Siltala and Jack Burke, were awarded SBC Golfer of the Week honors.
  • Tylan Pope was selected as SBC Second Team in men’s basketball.
  • Baseball has wins over then-No. 1 Texas A&M and then-No. 19 Oklahoma State.
  • Softball is 3-0 in conference play and sitting at the top of the SBC with 19 wins overall.

And looking ahead—Bobcat football is back this fall! Mark your calendars for home games against Eastern Michigan (Aug. 30), Nicholls (Sept. 20), and South Alabama (Nov. 29). Plus, don’t miss Homecoming Week (Oct. 6-11) with a big matchup against Troy.

Exciting things are happening for Bobcat athletics. The Weisman Football Performance Center, set to be dedicated early in the 2025 football season at the south end of UFCU Stadium, is just the start. More upgrades are on the way to enhance training, competition, and the fan experience. TXST is also leading the charge in NIL opportunities, ensuring our student-athletes are set up for success in this evolving landscape. Your support makes it all possible—let’s keep building the future of Bobcat sports together.

To that end—the 36th Bobcat Bonanza is coming up on April 25 at UFCU Stadium. This is our biggest fundraiser for student-athletes, featuring dinner, live entertainment, and auctions. Get your tickets now and be part of the fun!

Honoring Excellence

Next Sunday, March 30, we proudly welcome the first class of initiates into TXST’s Phi Beta Kappa (PBK) chapter—the nation’s most prestigious honor society. After a rigorous application process, TXST was selected in August 2024, becoming only the fifth public university in Texas and the third Hispanic-Serving Institution in the nation to earn this distinction. With fewer than 300 PBK chapters nationwide, this is a milestone achievement.

Great news for Bobcat business students! Poets & Quants for Undergrads, a top source for business education rankings, has named TXST’s McCoy College of Business one of the Best Undergraduate Business Schools of 2025. In its first-ever ranking for McCoy, the publication placed us #75 overall, #4 among public universities in Texas, and #30 among all public universities in the U.S. This well-deserved recognition highlights the incredible work of our faculty, students, and alumni.

I’ll wrap up with one more exciting announcement—this May at Spring Commencement, TXST will award honorary doctorates to four outstanding individuals: Jack Martin, Taylor Sheridan, Nathali Weisman, and Richard Castro. Their achievements reflect the spirit of TXST, and we’re proud to celebrate them. I look forward to sharing more information as we get closer to spring commencement ceremonies.

In Case You Missed It

  • Listen to a new episode of my podcast The Current, part of the TXST Podcast Network, introducing our Phi Beta Kappa Chapter with Dr. Heather Galloway and Dr. Bryan Glass.
  • TXST Continuing Education & MedCerts partner to expand access to healthcare training programs.
  • Texas State University hosts inaugural AI in Teaching and Learning Symposium.
  • Two Texas State faculty honored as 2024 TSUS Regents' Teachers.

It’s an exciting time to be a Bobcat! Thanks for everything you do to support TXST. Wishing you all a season filled with fresh beginnings and new possibilities.

States Up!
