April is National Oral Cancer Awareness Month!

Oral cancer includes cancers of the mouth and pharynx (i.e. back of the throat). It affects over 50,000 Americans each year, and cases linked to the human papillomavirus (HPV) are steadily rising. HPV vaccine is a safe and effective way to reduce the risk of HPV-related cancers, including certain oral cancers. Early detection saves lives, so take time this month to check for unusual sores, lumps, or changes in your mouth, and schedule a routine dental exam. Avoid tobacco and excessive alcohol and ask your healthcare provider or dentist about HPV-related risks and prevention, including vaccination. Encourage your patients and loved ones to prioritize their oral health. Together, we can raise awareness and reduce the impact of oral cancer.

Join Us This Week for AIAW!

Adolescent Immunization Action Week (AIAW) is here—and your voice is essential to make it impactful!

From April 6-10, we’re bringing together teens, families, and communities to promote protection through life-saving vaccines. This week is all about empowering one another, strengthening trust, and driving action statewide.

Here’s how you can make a difference this week:

✅ Share AIAW materials and educational resources with your networks each day.

✅ Spark conversations on social media using our AIAW toolkit and amplify key messages about adolescent immunization.

✅ Make strong recommendations for vaccines for preteens and teens to protect against meningitis, HPV cancers, and whooping cough.

Let’s work together to make Adolescent Immunization Action Week a movement that reaches every corner of our communities. Join us and spread the word all week long!
